THIS PATRONAGE WILL ALLOW TO EXPAND THE CONSERVATORY WORK ON THE 10 HECTARES OF ORADOUR SUR GLANE, MARTYR VILLAGE

“This sponsorship will make it possible to amplify the conservation work on the 10 hectares undertaken over the coming months under the responsibility of State services in conjunction with the communities and the national association of the families of the martyrs of Oradour-sur-Glane. They will notably consist of crystallizing the most sensitive elements of the martyr village, restoring various parts and buildings of the site which require maintenance but also ensuring the protection of movable property on the basis of a master plan validated on December 14, 2023 by the National Commission for Heritage and Architecture.
In June 2023, the Ministry of Culture and the Heritage Foundation launched a collection of donations in favor of the preservation and transmission of the martyr village of Oradour. ABOUT THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE

The law of May 10, 1946 transferred ownership of the remains of the martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane to the State and declared its classification as historical monuments. The Ministry of Culture, responsible for the site, has since constantly maintained the martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane (Haute-Vienne). However, the passage of time and bad weather cause erosion of the remains which increases as the 80th anniversary of the massacre approaches and requires larger-scale conservation intervention. Faced with this rapid acceleration in the degradation of the remains, the question arises of the sustainability of the site and the maintenance of the memory of the victims of Nazi crimes.

On the basis of a master plan validated by the National Commission for Heritage and Architecture, on December 14, 2023, providing for the restoration and maintenance of the site and estimated at 19 million euros over a period of fifteen years, a new management plan to ensure the preservation of the site in its entirety, and the expansion of conservation work on the 10 hectares must be undertaken in the coming months…/
